Oklahoma Foundations Award Over $196 Million In Grants
Oklahoma Foundation Assets Exceed $4.2 Billion
The largest 214 Oklahoma foundations, whose assets represent over 99% of all Oklahoma foundation assets, awarded $196,354,788 in grants to mostly Oklahoma charitable organizations, according to the newly released Oklahoma Foundation DataBook, 2nd Ed.

The DataBook lists every one of the 1,123 grantmaking foundations currently operating in Oklahoma, and features comprehensive profiles of the State's largest 214 foundations. It is also the only directory in Oklahoma that lists every one of the 7,710 grants the State's largest foundations made for the most recent year on record.

The DataBook classifies each grant a foundation made by matching the organization that received the grant to a category from one of the 26 National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) categories, a system used to describe nonprofit organizations.

Of the over $196,000,000 in grants made by Oklahoma's largest 214 foundations, Oklahoma Educational organizations received the most money, with $56,096,892 awarded from 1,966 grants; Health organizations received $27,304,630 from 458 grants; Human Services organizations received $21,067,925 from 1,072 grants; Philanthropic organizations received 163 grants totaling $19,248,710; Arts, Cultures & Humanities organizations received 1001 grants totaling $16,251,820; Religious organizations received $12,084,411 from 701 grants; Medical Research organizations received $11,648,037 from 60 grants; and Community Improvement organizations, which include organizations such as a Chamber Of Commerce or a United Way, received $7,748,603 from 543 grants.

Other top categories include Youth Development organizations, which received $4,793,527 from 269 grants; Mental Health organizations, which received $4,181,955 from 89 grants; and Housing related organizations, which received $2,964,993 from 113. Totals for all of the 26 NTEE categories are shown at www.FoundationDataBook.com.

The 214 foundations profiled in the Oklahoma Foundation DataBook, 2nd Ed. have assets of $4,214,000,218 as indicated on their most recent IRS Return (form 990 or 990PF).
