Nebraska Foundations Award Over $157 Million In Grants
Nebraska Foundation Assets Exceed $1.7 Billion

The largest 290 Nebraska grantmaking foundations, whose assets represent over 99% of all Nebraska foundation assets, awarded $157,391,713 in grants to mostly Nebraska charitable organizations, for the most recent year on record.

The 290 foundations and every one of the 8,677 grants they made are profiled in the Nebraska Foundation DataBook, 3rd Ed.--available from C&D Publishing, Portland, OR.

The DataBook includes indexes with general information on every one of the 904 foundations currently active in Nebraska and features comprehensive profiles of Nebraska's largest grantmaking foundations and all of their grants for the most recent year on record.

The DataBook classifies each grant a profiled foundation made by matching the organization that received the grant to a category from one of the 26 National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) categories.

Of the over $157 million in grants made by Nebraska's largest 290 foundations, Nebraska Educational organizations received the most money, with $45,983,525 awarded from 1,986 grants; Arts, Cultures & Humanities organizations received 1,111 grants totaling $22,098,717; Human Services organizations received $14,121,331 from 1,185 grants; Health organizations received $13,358,629 from 577 grants; Community Improvement organizations, which include organizations such as a Chamber Of Commerce or a United Way, received $9,967,524 from 667 grants; Religious organizations received $8,597,434 from 861 grants; Environmental organizations received 250 grants totaling $6,915,417; and Philanthropy-related organizations received $5,961,194 from 193 grants.

A total of 2,963 grants were made to 874 Omaha charitable organizations, the most of any city in Nebraska. The total of those grants, $64,061,134, was also the most money received by any city in Nebraska. Lincoln charitable organizations received 1,094 grants totaling $11,001,273.

The 290 foundations profiled in the Nebraska Foundation DataBook, 3rd Ed. have assets of $1,775,506,963, as indicated on their most recent IRS filing (form 990 or 990PF).
