Kearney Foundation Assets Exceed $30 Million
Kearney Charities Received More Than $1.4 Million In Grants
The assets of Kearney's top foundations grew to $30,418,088 for the most recent year on record, according to the recently released Nebraska Foundation DataBook, 3rd Ed.

The 528-page DataBook lists every foundation in Nebraska and profiles the top 290 Nebraska grantmaking foundations, whose assets represent more than 99% of all Nebraska foundation assets. The DataBook is the only directory in Nebraska that lists every one of the 8,677 grants awarded by the state's largest foundations.

There are 7 Kearney foundations profiled in the DataBook. The combined total of the grants awarded by Kearney foundations was $1,225,050. Kearney nonprofit organizations received 68 grants with a combined total of $1,488,730. The average grant to Kearney nonprofit organizations was $21,893.

Each of the 8,677 grants made by the profiled foundations is described using the 26 Major Field Areas of the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) classification system, developed specifically to categorize nonprofit organizations. The top categories of foundation grants in Kearney were: 20 grants classified as Education, with a sub-total of $446,795; 5 grants classified as Environmental quality, protection, with a sub-total of $324,860; 2 grants classified as Animal-related activities, with a sub-total of $168,000.

Kearney's largest foundation is the Ron & Carol Cope Foundation, whose assets of $12,278,179 give it a state-wide ranking of 36, as compared to the other 289 foundations profiled. The largest Kearney grant, made by Ron & Carol Cope Foundation, was to University Of Nebraska Foundation, Kearney in the amount of $150,000. The purpose was: Safety Center building.

The combined asset amount of Nebraska's top 290 foundations is $1,775,506,963. The foundations profiled in the DataBook are identified by careful cross checking of IRS and state public records (starting with the IRS 990 tax returns foundations are required to file).
