Hastings Foundation Assets Exceed $10 Million
Hastings Charities Receive More Than $1.7 Million In Grants
The assets of Hastings's top foundations grew to $10,928,339 for the most recent year on record, according to the recently released Nebraska Foundation DataBook, 3rd Ed.

The 528-page DataBook lists every foundation in Nebraska and profiles the top 290 Nebraska grantmaking foundations, whose assets represent more than 99% of all Nebraska foundation assets. The DataBook is the only directory in Nebraska that lists every one of the 8,677 grants awarded by the state's largest foundations.

There are 4 Hastings foundations profiled in the DataBook. The combined total of the grants awarded by Hastings foundations was $1,631,688. Hastings nonprofit organizations received 86 grants with a combined total of $1,750,060. The average grant to Hastings nonprofit organizations was $20,350.

Each of the 8,677 grants made by the profiled foundations is described using the 26 Major Field Areas of the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) classification system, developed specifically to categorize nonprofit organizations. The top categories of foundation grants in Hastings were: 29 grants classified as Education, with a sub-total of $1,150,499; 12 grants classified as Human services--other, multipurpose, with a sub-total of $294,152; 11 grants classified as Religion, spiritual development, with a sub-total of $181,713.

Hastings's largest foundation is the T-L Foundation, whose assets of $3,960,132 give it a state-wide ranking of 83, as compared to the other 289 foundations profiled. The largest Hastings grant, made by Robert & Carole Julian Foundation, was to Hastings College in the amount of $795,000. The purpose was: General.

The combined asset amount of Nebraska's top 290 foundations is $1,775,506,963. The foundations profiled in the DataBook are identified by careful cross checking of IRS and state public records (starting with the IRS 990 tax returns foundations are required to file).
