Grand Island Foundation Assets Exceed $17 Million
Grand Island Charities Received More Than $660,000 In Grants
The assets of Grand Island's top foundations grew to $17,143,696 for the most recent year on record, according to the recently released Nebraska Foundation DataBook, 3rd Ed.

The 528-page DataBook lists every foundation in Nebraska and profiles the top 290 Nebraska grantmaking foundations, whose assets represent more than 99% of all Nebraska foundation assets. The DataBook is the only directory in Nebraska that lists every one of the 8,677 grants awarded by the state's largest foundations.

There are 5 Grand Island foundations profiled in the DataBook. The combined total of the grants awarded by Grand Island foundations was $770,952. Grand Island nonprofit organizations received 95 grants with a combined total of $663,590. The average grant to Grand Island nonprofit organizations was $6,985.

Each of the 8,677 grants made by the profiled foundations is described using the 26 Major Field Areas of the National Taxonomy of Exempt Entities (NTEE) classification system, developed specifically to categorize nonprofit organizations. The top categories of foundation grants in Grand Island were: 11 grants classified as Arts, culture, humanities, with a sub-total of $208,707; 3 grants classified as Recreation, leisure, sports, athletics, with a sub-total of $102,000; 20 grants classified as Education, with a sub-total of $98,838.

Grand Island's largest foundation is the Edgar & Francis Reynolds Foundation, whose assets of $9,175,385 give it a state-wide ranking of 50, as compared to the other 289 foundations profiled. The largest Grand Island grant, made by Edgar & Francis Reynolds Foundation, was to Fonner Park Exposition & Events Center in the amount of $142,857. The purpose was: Program support.

The combined asset amount of Nebraska's top 290 foundations is $1,775,506,963. The foundations profiled in the DataBook are identified by careful cross checking of IRS and state public records (starting with the IRS 990 tax returns foundations are required to file).
